Do it Yourself Mp3 player

DIY Mp3 player:

Do it Yourself Mp3 player These days everyone has an mp3 player, but how about having an mp3 player that’s built by you from a diy project. This project is not for beginners, you have to know some electronics before you can build this, so if you never build anything at least half as complicated as this you shouldn’t start this project. The mp3 player is named by its author Mictronics, MP3stick. The MP3stick is a simple and small portable MP3 player. A microcontroller Atmel AVR ATmega128 is the heart of the circuit.

 DIY Mp3 player:

Do it Yourself Mp3 player MP3 decoding is done by an VLSI VS1011b decoder IC. A MMC/SD card works as memory medium for MP3 files, playlist files and skin files. The player is designed to draw his power from a LiIo/LiPo battery with 3.6V. a charger cicuit, based on MAX1811, is included. All information will be shown on a Nokia color LCD with 128128 pixel and 256 colors. The player will work in text-only mode and if a skin file is available, also with nice graphic skins. A docking port allows outside connectivity for serial control signals, audio signals and charger voltage input. It seems to me that this could easily replace your current mp3 player especially because its build by you. For those of you that are able to finish this project, you will definitely like it. For more information, schematics and support go to Mp3Stick webpage.

I’ve always liked small computers for their advantages: they are silent, low power consuming, ergonomic and let’s not forget cool and hi-tech. Well, Picotux is the smallest, lowest power consuming, and the coolest computer I ever seen. Some of you may say that this is not a real computer, which is true, the worlds smallest computer run’s on uClinux kernel 2.4.27 and Busybox 1.0.You cant really attach a monitor and a keyboard to it…, it has other applications…where you can use it. It comes with two built in applications webserver and telnet. Picotux the smallest computer in the world is available in two modes:

Picotux 100 modulePicotux 112

  • The first picture is the Picotux 100 module and it is available with 2 MB and 4 MB Flash.
  • The second picture is the Picotux 112 which is a picotux 100 mounted on a PCB board of 53mm x 48 mm. It is also available with 2 MB and 4 MB Flash and a Power Over Ethernet option (PoE).

It’s powered by an ARM7 CPU at 55 MHz. Two communication interfaces are provided, 10/100 Mbit half/full duplex Ethernet and a serial port with up to 230.400 baud. Five additional lines can be used for either general input/output or serial handshaking. The dimensions are Height:19 mm, Width:19 mm, and Deep:36 mm, it’s only slightly larger than an RJ45 connector. It’s a great gadget; I’m expecting mine to be delivered. If you decide to buy it you will need a Starterkit priced at about 350 $.

The starterkit consists of a picotux 112 with a preinstalled uClinux, a CD with all the binaries and sources for the uClinux and the tool chain. The system is prepared to run under Linux or in a Colinux environment under Windows XP. There is also a null modem cable to connect to a PC, a patch cable for the Ethernet, and power supply 110-220V to 7,5 V with power connector. Samsung SGH-U600 increase battery life As you may know the battery life on Samsung U600 is not great. There are some things you can do to increase your battery life up to 30% more. Use this only when you don’t user GPRS.

When you slide your phone up, enter this code: *#4777*8665# This will appear on the screen like this: *#4777*—– . Then, a secret menu will appear on your screen. Go to the option GPRS Detach and click it. Next you will have to wait some time, about 3-4 seconds and get the message: GPRS Detach confirm.

Your stand-by time has increased with 20% now!. GPRS detach will also remove the small blue background G on your screen which some people don’t like it. I also advice you to drain the battery completely before charging the first 3 times you charge. There’s no real proof that this will improve your battery life but there are rumors.(do not drain lipo batteries because you’ll harm them doing this.)

Another option is to buy a better battery; the standard battery had only 690mAH while this battery provides 1000mAh so it will increase the stand by time +- 30%. Yet another thing you can do is set the display brightness to the minimum, so the screen will consume less energy. And don’t leave Bluetooth activated, it’s very power consuming!

  • The alarm doesn’t work in silent mode
  • While typing a message when mp3 player is on, the Add word function doesn’t work properly.
  • When receiving a file via Bluetooth, there is no option to store it to the memory card so the size is limited to the phone memory

Samsung SGH-U600 Review

I’ve recently bought the Samsung U600 and I have to say it “Samsung did it again”. The U600 is the slimmest slide phone ever, measuring an astonishing 10.9mm thickness. It is a new model featuring a 3 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, and a nice music player. The Samsung U600 is the first of the second-generation Ultra phones to hit the market and is the replacement for the very popular Samsung D900 ultra-slim slide phone. At just 10.9 mm it’s even thinner than the D900, making it the slimmest slide phone available.

As well as making it thinner, Samsung have shaved a couple of millimeters off the width of the phone, which is a very good thing, because flat wide phones are not as ergonomic as conventionally-sized phones. And if you thinking about weight the Samsung U600 is 10 g lighter than the D900, making it an extremely lightweight phone. Another important aspect of the u600 is the touch sensitive external buttons (the ones you see when the slide is closed).Looking at the other features, the camera is Samsung’s best yet, and it comes with a high-resolution 3.2 megapixel resolution, LED flash, autofocus, incorporates CCD-shift image stabilization and digital zoom.Picture of Samsung SGH-U600 front and side

The only bad thing about the camera is the delay from pressing the button to the actual picture being taken which is about 2 seconds, I guess that is caused by the stabilization sensor, so it makes it hard to catch fast moving objects. There’s also a good quality video camera. The display is high resolution (240 x 320 pixels) with 262,144 colors and is excellent. The music player supports a wide range of formats – MP3, ACC, ACC+ and e-AAC+ – and has very good sound reproduction. You can use the stereo headset supplied by Samsung or a wireless Bluetooth headset. You can also listen to music through the built-in loudspeaker which features a Bang & Olufsen digital power amplifier.

The battery is less powerful than the D900’s, but Samsung claim that battery performance has actually been improved due to a new technology called OPUS (Optimized Power Usage Solution). My battery life is about 4-5 day’s, I achieved this by doing some settings , which I will explain in a later post. User memory is about 60 Mbytes so if you like to store more songs on your phone you will have to add a Micro SD card. The max memory card possible for this phone is a 2 Gbyte card, with storage for around 500 songs.

A PC data link kit is included in the sales package, for transferring music from a PC. The messaging on Samsung U600 is cool looking and it includes support for email attachments and a document viewer for viewing MS Office, PDF and HTML files. The available EDGE connection is nice for fast downloads.

Other features that I would like to point out is , the quad band operating frequency, wireless photo printing with PicBridge compatible printers and the TV-Out connector for viewing your photos and videos directly on a TV. To finish this review, The Samsung U600 is a lightweight, ultra-slim, sexy-slider phone, that’s what made me buy it.

Here is some pictures i took with the phone , so you can see the quality:
