The initial inspection of the hardware told me 80% of what I needed to know to control it. As usual the last 20% was 80% of the work but it paid off. I approached this exactly the same way I do any new electronic design bring-up. One advantage is you can be pretty sure the hardware is solid – APC didn’t get a good reputation from crappy hardware, however, one huge disadvantage is you have to deduce the schematic as you go but that adds to the challenge. One nice things is that most electronics basically work the same so it gets easier to make educated guesses on how your unknown hardware works.
